New York LICA’s Golf Outing was “Above Par”

Many LICA State Chapters host Golf Outings annually to raise money for scholarships and I was lucky enough to attend New York LICA’s 8th Annual Golf Outing. To say I know very little about the game itself, is an understatement. I wanted to know about what goes into preparing and planning a Golf Outing.

Land Improvement Contractors of America Announces New Educational Foundation for Veterans

LISLE, ILLINOIS, September 1, 2021—The Land Improvement Contractors of America (LICA) Educational Foundation for Veterans is currently under development, its mission to train military veterans for work in the heavy construction industry. The Foundation’s Board of Directors includes experienced industry professionals from across the U.S. The organization will be headquartered in the same facility as the LICA national office in Lisle, Illinois.

Nick Yaksich’s Visit to the National Office

Nick Yaksich, the new LICA Director of Government Relations, was excited for the 2020 Summer Meeting in Niagara Falls. He wanted to spend more time with LICA members face-to-face and better understand the inner workings of the association, unfortunately the Summer Meeting was cancelled. He did not let that stop him from “getting to know LICA.”

In early August, Nick took to the road, to first visit National LICA President, Bob Clark and his wife Donna at their office in New Castle, Indiana. Nick got to see Bob’s ongoing projects and take a tour of his shop and facilities. He enjoyed Bob’s view of LICA, the challenges we face and his vision as we move forward. He then moved on to the national headquarters in Lisle, Illinois.

During his visit at the National Office Nick met with Allison Hack, Director of Communications, and Eileen Levy, Chief Financial Officer. He took a step back in time with Eileen, who shared some of National LICA’s historical background and its evolution throughout the years.

Nick and Allison collaborated on the new bi-weekly email blast, “The Legislative Landscape.” They discussed what issues are important to LICA members, and decided the format and topics to cover.

“The Legislative Landscape” had performed very well with LICA members. Nick has done well navigating this new position in these uncertain times. He has a good handle on LICA, its members and what matters to them.

Emergency Plan—Do You Have One?

Imagine yourself sitting with your team, maybe with your key supervisor over coffee or in the corner confer- ence room with the leadership team, and you’re discuss- ing day to day business operations. Your phone rings and you send it to voicemail. Another team member’s phone rings and she sends it to voice mail. Your phone rings again or the conference room phone rings and you decide that someone should finally answer this phone call.
