Stimulus Legislation Tops Any Agenda

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) stated that he wants to move on a stimulus bill before the end of the year. The narrowing of the House majority presents more challenges for the House Speaker to keep her majority together and not reach some kind of compromise with the Senate. For farmers, getting significant stimulus may be limited by the defeat of House Agriculture Committee Chairman Colin Peterson (MN) a leading advocate of support for American farmers.

AGC Reports Widespread Delay/Cancellation of Projects

A new survey reports that 75 percent of contractors have seen an upcoming project canceled or postponed. That’s up from 60 percent in August and 32 percent in June, according to the Associated General Contractors. The recent AGC survey also shows that 78 percent of contractors have faced delays or disruptions on current projects.

USDA Updates RCPP Announcement to Clarify Forestry Eligibility – Proposal deadline for the Regional Conservation Partnership Program extended to November 30

USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) re-posted a revised Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP) funding announcement, inviting potential conservation partners to submit project proposals for federal funding. NRCS will award up to $360 million dollars to locally driven, public-private partnerships that improve the nation’s water quality, combat drought, enhance soil health, support wildlife habitat and protect agricultural viability.
