The Trump administration has announced an $8 billion Harvest Fuel Relief Program offering one-time payments to farmers to help offset increased diesel prices and other input costs. The Agriculture Department is using funds from the Commodity Credit for the relief.
USDA says it plans to pay producers for some of the losses they are expected to see during the 2026 crop year based on a formula that considers reported Farm Service Agency planted acres, Economic Research Service cost of production estimates, and World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates yields and prices.
The program will be similar to the agency's 2025 Farmer Bridge Assistance program, which used $12 billion in CCC funding to help bolster farmers' incomes to help them deal with a challenging farm economy. USDA noted producers of non-Title I commodities, including specialty crop growers and fishermen, are encouraged to provide data related to increased fuel costs to HarvestFuel@usda.gov for USDA's consideration when determining payment rates.
