A Partnership for the Ages

By: Debbie Dickens

March, 2021 will mark 60 years since Clyde and Rose Day of Gibson City, Illinois established Day Drainage, Inc. and began a partnership, the legacy of which still influences both their family and the Land Improvement Contractors of America (LICA). Actually, their personal partnership began many years before Day Drainage was formed. After returning from serving in World War II, Clyde began hauling lumber, fertilizer and gravel, shoveling it all on and off the truck by hand. In the late 1940s, he decided he needed a new truck and went to Rogers Chevrolet to make the purchase where he met a beautiful young bookkeeper named Rose Gusler. Little did he know how that chance encounter would change his life or that he had found his perfect partner. Rose also was unaware of what destiny had in store. In fact, she would later tease that, because Clyde was buying a new truck, she thought he was wealthy! Nevertheless, romance blossomed and they were married in 1950.
